LADAKH

Somewhere 40 million years ago when the tectonic plate of the Indian sub-continent collided with the continent of Eurasia, the 1,500 miles long Greater Himalayas was formed with an average height of 4600 M. According to the geologists Ladakh was the “point of collision”. Ladakh with the area of 95,000 square kilometers has one of the lowest population densities in the world; 2 inhabitation per kilometer…Sandwiched between Karakoram and Zanskar range of mountains, Ladakh is the biggest district of India.

An old Ladakhi saying: The passes are so high and land so barren; only a dear friend or a serious enemy will reach here…

Ladakh is unbeatable on the heritage front with its 34 ancient Buddhist monasteries. Every village has a monastery and every monastery has an annual festival, its undoubtedly the "Land Of Celebrations".

Ladakh is truly Mother Nature’s gift to mankind. While its difficult to control one’s excitement, but as a practice, the first few hours in Ladakh should be dedicated to acclimatising one’s body to the demands of this high altitude region. Once adjusted, set out for your journey to explore the wonders the destination has to offer.
